23 , 2005: Protocol
Change At PJ? The
following "announcement" was posted in August 2004 at Perverted-Justice
by the owner Xavier Von Erck Protocol
Update: On contacting Law Enforcement Lately,
I'm sure many of you have noticed our contacting of the BRPD in the Barcelona
case. This is the highest profile example of new protocol put in place immediately
following the Dave Satter investigation. The new protocol deals with contacting
law enforcement first. We have loosened the reins on the contributors ability
to contact law enforcement. They now have the ability to contact law enforcement
on each bust they find. The Barcelona Case is only the highest profile example
of this, various other individuals have been "shopped around" to police
with varying results. As
stated, the change in protocol was prompted by the Dave Satter investigation.
There is still more than enough to charge Satter with, but it annoyed me greatly
that he was contacted by the "usual suspects" (most of you know who
I'm speaking about) to get rid of his hard drive. While the police and ourselves
do not need the offending persons hard drive to bring a case, it was still greatly
annoying to read about. Couple
that with the fact that after Dooley and Short, after the GMB's, we are finding
that when we contact Law Enforcement, they have heard of us. No more "Go
to cybertipline" requests, but actual respect and resolve to work with our
organization. The police we've contacted have been positive as hell, and it's
really great to open up so many new partnerships. Will
this mean the end of posting these people publicly? No. We will continue to do
so. We will continue to need the services of each and every one of you individuals
in Followup. Not all police departments are able to handle such investigations,
nor are all funded enough to do so. In those cases, we will not sit idly by while
an individual solicits underage kids in regional chat rooms. No thanks on that
count. We
will also continue to be needing the work of Followup on individuals who have
been arrested and/or convicted after we post the chat-file. If you look into the
case of Paul Short, you will see exactly how we need your help on that. Notifying
the community is a civic responsibility, and we will continue to do so. As
Perverted Justice continues to grow and gain experience and credibility, we have
continually shifted site protocol to match that growth. This is the latest, and
will only increase the amount of effectiveness our organization has. It's nice
to finally be at a point to be able to finally do this. Give yourselves a pat
on the back! Any
questions about this new protocol can be posted in this thread. Last

Response: As
usual, an official "policy change" at PJ results in 5 months elapsing
with absolutely no visible change in their practices. In fact, it could be argued
that their new "human shield" area basically invalidates the stated
policy change completely! For
those new to Corrupted-Justice.com - In the Satter case, PJers contacted Satter's
employer rather than going to the police. Two of our former members (Real Activist
and Konst24) realized that this particular person was working in a school, near
children. They immediately took it upon themselves to contact the police in Satter's
town. As
a result of our call to the police, law enforcement personel immediately went
to Satter's home with a search warrant, only to discover that Satter had already
been "notified" a few days earlier by PJers calling to harass him. His
immediate reaction on being "notified that he was famous" by PJ? He
destroyed all evidence which could be used against him. He destroyed his hard
drive, and possibly other evidence, completely as a result of PJ's refusal to
contact police. Satter walked away scot-free. This
case is the perfect example of 1) the reason why "perv busting" should
be left to qualified law enforcement officials, and 2) the fact that PJers have
no difficulty with attempting to place the blame on someone else rather than admitting
that their vigilantes screwed up. Pay
close attention to Xavier's wording in his announcement - "We have loosened
the reins on the contributors ability to contact law enforcement." -
Would this not indicate that prior to now, the reins were "tight" with
regard to allowing contribs to contact LE? Perhaps
those new to this issue were not aware, but for 2 1/2 years, until July of 2004
(after approx. 620 "busts" had already taken place) there was a very
strict rule in place at PJ. "The Rule of No First Contact" -
The rule stated that any PJer caught proactively contacting either police or the
media without Xavier's personal say-so would result in their being banned from
the site. That's approx. 620 people that they've busted while their volunteers
were expressly forbidden from contacting the police! How many of those "busts"
went on to rape or kill a child as a result of PJ's inaction? I guess we'll never
know. Xavier
can continue to attempt to alter history to try to cover up his unbelievably blatent
blunders, but there are plenty of people who have been here long enough to know
better. Until
their "protocol" states "EVERY bust WILL be reported to Law Enforcement
for resolution" and the "Follow-Up Forum" at PJ ceases to exist,
we will continue to ensure the public is aware of the truth behind Xavier's announcements
and PJ's actions. |
